We work exclusively for individuals and families, never for hospitals or authorities. Our team of over 75 fee earners works across five offices. We specialise in four key areas of law where people often feel overwhelmed and need expert guidance.
What sets us apart is simple: we respond quickly when cases become urgent, we continue supporting you until you feel ready to move forward independently, and we adapt our approach to your specific needs. Whether you’re comfortable calling us daily or prefer minimal contact, we work the way that feels right for you.
Our clients come to us through word of mouth and recommendations from people who’ve experienced our service firsthand. Many tell us they feel treated as a person, not a case number, and that we fight hard to achieve the outcomes that matter most to them.
We help safeguard the rights of people assessed as lacking the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves.
When you’re detained under the Mental Health Act, we provide immediate support and expert representation.
We challenge inadequate care assessments and fight for proper funding so you get the support you’re entitled to.
When public bodies make unfair decisions, we challenge them through judicial review to secure fair treatment.
What type of work Bison Solicitors do and how can you help me?
We are a specialist law firm working in Mental Health, Court of Protection, Community Care and Public Law. We represent people detained under the Mental Health Act, including those under Sections 2, 3, 17A, 37, 37/41, prison transfers and advise on aftercare rights under Section 117, provide Mental Health Tribunal representation as well as other attendance at professional meetings. In the Court of Protection, we work with Litigation Friends and the Official Solicitor on mental capacity assessments, S16 welfare applications, S21A challenges and deprivation of liberty matters. We also advise and represent clients in Community Care and Public Law disputes, helping individuals and families secure essential care, support and fair treatment.
How quickly can you respond to urgent cases?
We see new clients within 24 hours of any referral, often on the same day. For urgent matters outside office hours, our team provides urgent legal support by phone on 01252 268 068.
Do you only work in certain areas of the country?
We have five offices across England (Aldershot, St Albans, Manchester, Bristol, and Nottingham) and work with clients nationwide. We’ll travel to see you wherever you are, including hospitals and care homes.
Will I always work with the same solicitor?
Yes. We believe consistency matters. You’ll have a dedicated solicitor from start to finish. If a change is ever needed, we’ll introduce you personally to ensure continuity in legal representation.
How do you charge for your services?
Over 90% of our work is covered by Legal Aid, which means there’s often no cost to you. We hold Legal Aid contracts for Mental Health, Court of Protection, and Community Care work. For private cases, we explain fees clearly from the start.
How do you keep families involved in the process?
We give families clear options for how involved they want to be. We can seek court permission to share documents, help you prepare statements, or attend meetings and hearings with you. Our approach is always person-centred, and the level of involvement is your choice.
Keep up with recent legal developments and see how our cases are making a difference for clients like you.
